A view of Pointe Du Hoc, located on the western end of the Omaha sector consisting of 100 foot cliffs. The 2nd American Ranger Battalion used rocket fired grappling irons to climb the cliffs. 180 of the 225 Rangers made it to the top of the cliffs under have enemy fire, only to find that the Germans had moved the 155mm artillery pieces they ordered to destroy. The Rangers soon found the canons and put them out of action before they fired off a round toward Utah or Omaha Beach.
