Notre-Dame de Paris is a medieval Catholic cathedral, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, is considered on of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture. The cathedral began construction in 1163 and was largely completed by 1260. During the French Revolution it suffered extensive desecration and in the 19th century it hosted the coronation of Napoleon I and may funerals of the French Republic's presidents.
