A view of Omaha Beach on the cost of Normandy France. On June 6, 1944, American battalions from the 1st Infantry Division, 29th Infantry Division, 116th RCT and 743rd Tank Battalion landed on the beach against opposing German forces from the 352nd Infantry Division and the may obstacles the Germans had placed on the beach. American forces on Omaha suffered the heaviest casualties of any of the invasion beaches, with 2,400 men killed.
